About Sindhu

A yoga teacher certified in Ayurvedic nutrition, a lifelong student of teaching and learning about wellness and movement, and a volunteer for anything that is important to me — based in Greensborough, Melbourne.

Sixteen years of showing up

Based in Greensborough in Melbourne's north-east, I came to yoga teaching after a career in finance and regional sales — which means I understand both the business of wellness and the human need for it.

I teach in diverse settings and communities, catering to private and group audiences across Singapore, Germany, America, India, Nepal and Melbourne. I have a long-standing connection to the local community through the Carers Community, Social Support to the Elderly, and Neighbourhood Houses under the Banyule Council. I hold a Bachelor of Commerce and trained in Cost and Works Accounting before pivoting to yoga around 2010.

I'm a bridge figure — comfortable in both Indian yogic tradition and Australian allied-health language, in a community centre and a corporate boardroom. I teach from my own continuing evolution, not from a fixed script. The Devanagari सिंधु on this page isn't decoration — it's a signal to the right student that this is not a westernised studio-yoga brand.

Two things inspired me into this space of learning and teaching. The first: an unexpected change happened to my health, and it created a long-lasting change within me.

The other reason I do what I do surfaces from my real need of knowing — the curiosity of understanding root causes and solving things.

The 3M Practice

Everything I teach comes back to what I call the 3M practice: mindset, mindfulness and movement. Three doors into the same room; it doesn't much matter which one you come in by.

Mindset

How you start the day sets the day. One thing you're grateful for, named before you pick up the phone. It sounds too small to matter. Try it for a week.

Mindfulness

Give your nervous system a little calm. A few deep breaths, some time in nature, or a short meditation.

Movement

Wake up your body. Yoga, walking, skipping, whatever feels good for you. Movement that lives with you: the kind you could still picture yourself doing on your very last day.

Why I do this

I don't promise transformation. What students tell me about, week after week, is quieter than that: sleeping through the night, trusting a knee again, liking their own company. In my experience the bigger questions start to sort themselves out once the body and the nervous system settle.

I did other work before this. Finance taught me plenty and I'm glad for it, but teaching is the first work I don't switch off from, and I don't want to. That's as close to a calling as I need to get.

My work gives people a different way into their own lives: through the body, the breath, and a bit of honest conversation. Sixteen years in, I still leave most classes having learnt something myself. That's why I do this.
